FAMILIAL BLU - ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS

A homage to my grandparents Grammy and Grampy- two of my earliest supporters and biggest influences. Grampy (my step grandfather) was a psychiatrist who turned to oil painting in his retirement. He inspired Grammy who was a professor and lawyer to do the same in her retirement, but she went a different route and discovered her own illustrative style in watercolor. They traveled and painted together, and had their art decorating their homes as well as ours. One of the most notable themes of their work was this use of the most incredible vibrant inspirational blue. A color that always reminds me of them and their love for art and now mine as well. I wanted this piece to feel more textbook still life, but with elements like fake flowers representing that even if someone isn’t blood related doesn’t make that relationship any less beautiful, as well as two hot vibrant candles representing their burning love and passion for art.
